Health tips for working people
For normal office goers like me, an ordinary day starts with me somehow getting up in the morning after battling with my alarm clock. After jumping out of my bed, I run towards the bathroom in a hurry to make myself presentable enough to be called a decent office employee. I rush through the whole way in order to reach in time. The next part of the day is again a roller coaster ride. Meetings, Conferences, sitting at a desk for long hours and junk food are four wheels of my professional life wagon. After a long day I rush back to my home, eat whatever I get, fall on couch, watch some TV and then sleep like a baby. This cycle goes on for almost 365 days of the year.
The only time the topic ‘health’ comes to my mind is when I encounter some illness or someone around me becomes a victim to a strange disease which I may have not heard of. Sometimes it’s my heart gone crazy after climbing a few stairs. Most of the times this topic is sidelined by more prioritized topics such as work deadlines, fast home delivery junk meals or late night parties.
In this high speed lifestyle of ours, there are times when we feel that if there was some way that we can somehow manage our health too. Some way we can fit this health module along with our work life too. After all, some wise person said that health is the real wealth.
But working long hours in office doesn’t mean that we cannot stay healthy. There are some habits that we can include in our daily lifestyle which can help us stay fit. All we have to do is, follow these simple steps every day, till they become an integral part of our daily life.
Don’t forget your breakfast.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A healthy breakfast lays a strong foundation for the rest of the day. It helps to keep you energized for the first half of the day. Breakfast helps you fulfill a part of calories needed by the body for its everyday functions. Having breakfast everyday has long term benefits too. It helps to reduce high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity.
Drink plenty of water
Drinking water helps in reducing fatigue and anxiety. It also helps in reducing constipation. Water helps in flushing out the unwanted things from the body. It helps maintain the body temperature too. Water also reduces the risk of kidney stones. It is advisable to drink at least two liters of water every day.
Sleep is the natural reboot system of the body. A sound sleep is the medication to many diseases. It eases of your mood. It helps in maintaining a healthy weight. Sleeping also reduces stress. Proper sleep magnifies creativity. It improves memory and concentrating capabilities. Try to sleep around 7-8 hours a day.
Reduce the intake of sugary stuff or sodas.
Are you fond of sugary snacks or drinks? Well then this will be a bit hard for you. Sugary drinks whether in the form of soft drinks or packages juices are harmful to health. Yes, they are tasty, but they come with loads of sugar contents which in the end result in indigestion or some extra layers around our belly. In a sedentary lifestyle it is quite hard to digest extra sugar. It also increases the risk of many diseases. Instead of drinking a soda drink, you can switch to fresh juices or green tea.
Make yourself more mobile
You can start an exercise routine every day. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an hour at the gym. Putting up 15 minutes every day is also good enough. Slowly you can increase the time or the number of shifts. You can also practice this in office. You can try to take the stairs whenever possible. It will help you burn some calories. Similarly instead of calling or messaging your friends, you can go to their place and discuss too. Try to walk after lunch before going to your desk. While working you can try to stand up and move a bit after every one hour. It will relax your eyes and mind. Some firms have implemented the idea of standing podiums, where employees stand and work. This help in the effective circulation of blood and also increases efficiency.
Take part in activities outside work
Start taking part in activities which are not work related. For example you can be the CSR program of your firm. It will provide your body some exercise plus some internal happiness too. You can also organize some weekend activities like cycling, hiking, trekking etc. with your friends or colleagues. You can also join some sports club on weekends. This will help you to get some exercise during lazy holidays.
Take sunlight everyday
Nowadays, a lot of people are facing problems due to vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin D deficiency is one of the main members of this group. Sunlight is the main source of Vitamin D. For normal office goers it may not be possible to see the sun at all, as they go early to office and then come back late in the evening. Try to take sunlight everyday especially in early morning.
Bring your own lunch
Bringing lunch from home is also an excellent practice you can follow to cut down unnecessary chemicals and fats. You can prepare your lunch according to your own health preferences and then enjoy it at work.
